Same Sex Marriage.

This is probably one of the touchiest subjects I can talk about. But I am against same sex marriage. Lets explore this though, because my opinion is not nearly as bad as it sounds. I believe that marriage is defined as the joining for life of a man and a woman, and I believe thats what it has meant for thousands of years. This is more or less the bibles definition of marriage, and it was just over the past hundred years or so that people began denouncing Christianity and being married through the courts. The definition of marriage has been the biblical one for thousands of years and it is only in the past 30 years that people have been wishing to change it. I'm not saying that the bible is right, I'm just saying thats the definition we have been using for a long long time. I have no problem with a homo-sexual orientation. I have a couple homo-sexual friends, and one very good one. And I believe that they should receive the same rights as us, and one of those is to get married. Feel free to go out and get married as we have it defined. You are more than welcome to find a person of the opposite sex and spend the rest of your life with them. And if they don't want to get married then that is their own fault. I do not believe that we should change the definition of marriage, but I do believe that a new title should be made for them giving them the exact same legal status as marriage. And in that way they may have the same benefits as a married couple without having to change the traditional definition of marriage.

This is a controversial one, and I would love to hear what you guys have to say about it. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, just bash away. If you think that you can change my mind I would love to hear from you.

  2. Interesting opinion, though I believe that through love should be encouraged no matter what. Good idea about the name change, but I don't think people would accept it :) ,.

  5. Well, I respect your opinion, but changing the definition of marriage would be unfair for them...why? Because they want to get married too, but they don't like woman, they just don't...so just because of that they will be rejected of doing what almost we all want someday? get married? better lets say that being married means "Joining the mutual love of 2 persons to the eyes of God", just my opinion =)

  6. Thank you so much for commenting ishu! There is really no way for me to disagree with your argument. Unless I said that homosexuals don't have the right to pursue happiness, which although I'm sure some people believe that, I absolutely do not. I'm sure many homosexuals grow up dreaming of marriage, and a legal substitution does not really cut it for some of them. But I think if we were to give their joining a whole new title, one that the straight community is not allowed to take part in, they may be able to make it their own special little thing, that to them is even better than marriage. I'm sure that would take a large media campaign and several millions of dollars to pull off though.

  7. As far as I am concerned, getting married is a retarded idea in the first place. If gay people want to fuck up real hard, let them. ,.

  8. I feel that homosexuals should have the same opportunity as me to get married and be completely miserable.

  18. As for the church and state, it shouldn't be relevant.

But as for the bible and stuff, that's completely different for everyone. I just think that homosexual marriages should exist, even though I'm completely straight.

  21. There are not just Christian marriages. You can be an atheist and get married as well. Why should the government limit it to just what some people believe is the Christian marriage? If you believe marriage is a Christian doctrine then why do people get tax, inheritance, and child rights privileges from the government from this religious ritual? That would go against the first amendment assuming you are from the USA.

  22. Yea, I'm all for giving the title a different name, but I know that won't please a lot of people, but nothing really will.

  24. thanks iceonnice! I tried to make the church as least relevant as possbile in the post. I did not bring that up because I believe every thing the church does is right. I was just trying to examine marriage in the traditional sense, and the church is as traditional as it gets. I am not from the USA, but up here in Canada we follow very similar rules.
